Basic Training For Service On Ships Using Fuels Covered Within The IGF Code (BIGF)

Course Description

The aim of this course is to give seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use, and emergency response for vessels using fuels covered within the IGF Code, the education and training covered within the STCW requirements.

The course covers those parts of the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements specific to fuels covered within the IGF Code, as set out in the following:

Function: Operation of ships subject to the IGF Code

Competence:

  • Contribute to the safe operation of a ship subject to the IGF Code

  • Take precautions to prevent hazards on a ship subject to the IGF Code

  • Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures

  • Carry out firefighting operations on a ship subject to the IGF Code*

  • Respond to emergencies

  • Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of fuels found on ships subject to the IGF Code

 

*NB - the firefighting competence will be separately undertaken as specified within the tanker and IGF Code firefighting requirements and is required for MCA certificate endorsement.


There are three outcomes of the training:

  • The learner knows the properties of fuels covered within the IGF Code and the hazards associated with their use as a fuel.

  • The learner is able to apply health, safety and environmental precautions and measures in working on vessels using fuels covered within the IGF Code.

  • The learner understands the transfer and storage process for fuels covered within the IGF Code.

Eligibility

  • All participants undertaking the training must have completed the tanker firefighting course.

  • Please note that seafarers with existing UK MCA issued basic or advanced level gas tanker endorsement/certification are not required to undertake this training.

  • Non-Indian participants are required to hold a Valid Student Visa to India to attend the course. For students from countries where embassies do not issue Student Visas for short courses, a Business or relevant visa may be submitted, provided it includes the endorsement: "Maritime Training at HIMT Offshore." Additionally, HIMT will also provide the Visa Letter, if required, upon successful booking of the course.

  • 2 Passport Size Photos

  • Student Visa (for foreign candidates)
