Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) [GOC]

Course Description

The UK MCA approved Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) General Operator’s Certificate (GOC) course at HIMT provides seafarers with the skills to operate essential maritime communication equipment for distress, safety, and routine operations. This internationally recognized certification ensures proficiency in using GMDSS systems, including DSC, EPIRB, SART, and NAVTEX, for distress alerts, weather warnings, and ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication. Mandatory for deck officers and radio operators on ships over 300 gross tons, the course covers all aspects of distress and safety communications. Upon completing the training and passing the UK MCA-approved exam, participants will be equipped to manage GMDSS operations, ensuring compliance with IMO standards and maritime safety.

Eligibility

  • Learners shall be at least 18 years of age prior to the issue of a General Operator’s Certificate (GOC)

  • Students shall verbally confirm on the day that they are fit and well enough to participate in practical exercises.Non-Indian participants are required to hold a Valid Student Visa to India to attend the course. For students from countries where embassies do not issue Student Visas for short courses, a Business or relevant visa may be submitted, provided it includes the endorsement: "Maritime Training at HIMT Offshore." Additionally, HIMT will also provide the Visa Letter, if required, upon successful booking of the course.
