Advanced Training For Service On Ships Using Fuels Covered Within The IGF Code (AIGF)

Course Description
The aim of this course is to give seafarers the education and training required to carry out shipboard operations on vessels using fuels as covered within the IGF Code.
The course covers those parts of the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements specific to fuels covered within the IGF Code, as set out in the following:
Table A-V/3-2
Function: Operation of ships subject to the IGF Code
Competence: Familiarity with physical and chemical properties of fuels aboard ships subject to the IGF Code

Operate the controls of fuel related to propulsion plant and engineering systems and services and safety devices on ships subject to the IGF Code

Plan and monitor safe bunkering, stowage and securing of the fuel on board ships subject to the IGF Code
-
Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of fuels found on ships subject to the IGF Code
-
Monitor and control compliance with legislative requirements
-
Take precautions to prevent hazards

Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures on board a ship subject to the IGF Code

Knowledge of the prevention, control, and firefighting and extinguishing systems on aboard ships subject to the IGF Code*
*NB - the firefighting competence will be separately undertaken as specified within the tanker and IGF Code firefighting requirements and is required for MCA certificate endorsement.
There are four outcomes of the training:

The learner understands the chemical and physical properties of fuels covered within the IGF Code and control measures associated with their use as a fuel.

The learner is able to safely manage the fuel processes and practices on vessels using fuels covered within the IGF Code.

The learner is able to safely manage the fuel systems in compliance with legislative requirements.

The learner is able to manage health, safety, emergency response and environmental precautions in working on vessels using fuels covered within the IGF Code.

The candidates need to hold a Basic IGF CoP issued by UK MCA.

Before a Certificate of Proficiency can be issued, the seafarer must have completed at least one month of approved seagoing service that includes a minimum of three bunkering operations onboard. Two of the three bunkering operations may be replaced by simulator training on bunkering operations. These requirements must have been completed within the last five years.

Holders of advanced Gas Tanker Endorsement should apply directly to the MCA for an Advanced IGF Certificate of Proficiency.

Non-Indian participants are required to hold a Valid Student Visa to India to attend the course. For students from countries where embassies do not issue Student Visas for short courses, a Business or relevant visa may be submitted, provided it includes the endorsement: "Maritime Training at HIMT Offshore." Additionally, HIMT will also provide the Visa Letter, if required, upon successful booking of the course.

Candidates need to carry their original passport, CoC and CDC on the first day of the course for Identity verification.
